Les Dames d’Escoffier International bestows the title of Grande Dame every other year upon an outstanding woman who makes an incredible impact in food, beverages, and hospitality. The chapters sent their nominees, and this year, a panel of LDEI Past Presidents deliberated. Selecting just one remarkable woman for the honor is no small feat, and this year was as difficult as always. The nominees—Amy Emberling, Ariane Daguin, Carla Hall, Darina Allen, Kathy Mezrano, Mary Abbott Hess, Aliza Green, Mary Ann Esposito, Pam Williams, and Pat Bennett have all achieved meaningful accomplishments in their respective fields and communities.
With the task completed, we are pleased to announce that our 2024 Grande Dame is Carla Hall.
Carla, a member of the Washington, DC, Regional Chapter, has made exceptional contributions in the culinary field through her work in television, published books, and, just as importantly, her many volunteer activities. She serves on the board of four organizations devoted to the welfare of children and their families, dedicated to ensuring that all are fed, housed, and cared for. She is a mentor and role model, truly embodying LDEI’s values while achieving professional excellence and providing thoughtful leadership. There is no doubt that she will exemplify the role of Grande Dame.
