Benefactors

LDEI is fortunate to have benefactors who, through their generous bequeaths, have continued to support our organization after their passing. As Dames, there are many ways we give back to our chapters and LDEI to show our appreciation, passion and generosity and to express our support of LDEI’s mission, vision and principles. Becoming a LDEI benefactor is another meaningful way that members can continue to support our organization. Through their bequeaths, the following Dames have made it possible for LDEI to continue its mission and to serve our members into the future.

If you are interested in becoming a LDEI benefactor and or would like more information, contact us at info@LDEI.org.

Carol Brock
Founder, LDEI and the New York Chapter

It was back in 1973 when food journalist Carol Brock made it her mission to turn the culinary world on its heels by founding the first professional organization for women in food, wine and hospitality. Three years later, a landmark investiture and dinner for Les Dames d’Escoffier was held at the French Consulate in New York. The name Escoffier was taken as he was an early advocate for women’s visibility in culinary circles. Inducted into the chapter were 50 impressive women. The bylaws stated that once five chapters had been founded, Les Dames International (LDEI) would be established. In 1986, the international organization was officially launched at a gala dinner in the lobby of the Daily News building. Those first five chapters were New York, Washington DC, Chicago, Dallas and Philadelphia.

We will be ever grateful for Carol’s unwavering support of LDEI and for her enthusiasm, wisdom and generosity as the first benefactor of LDEI.
