Join us for the first webinar of 2021:

Connect with your Community Foundation and Write a Successful Grant Application

Tuesday, January 26, 1 to 2 p.m. EST on Zoom

As the world shifts and changes, we all need to explore new ways to raise money for our chapters.  This webinar will teach you how to tap into a valuable new well: community foundation grants.

There is an art to writing a successful grant application and this webinar will help you get started.

Here’s what you’ll walk away with:

  • Tips on how to tap into community foundations (and other grant-giving organizations) and get into these organizations’ consideration sets for valuable grant money
    • These skills can be applied globally to capture opportunities no matter where you are in the world
  • Knowledge about how to write a successful grant application
  • Insights on how grant applications are evaluated
  • Ideas about how to take advantage of #GivingTuesday and other special days focused on fundraising

Your guides on the webinar are three women who have deep experience in connecting with community foundations and successful grant application writing, including Dame Nancy Vienneau who just secured a $3,000 grant for the Nashville chapter.

Community foundation grants are an exciting new option to add to our traditional fund-raising channels (like tapping our own members, holding fund-raising events and soliciting corporate sponsorships). Applying for these grants can empower LDEI chapters around the world to have a bigger and more meaningful impact through scholarships and other philanthropic endeavors. You can even put this valuable knowledge to use for your own business or anther volunteer organization in your life!

Gina Brown is the Founder and Executive Director of Let Us Learn, Inc. For over 12 years, she taught Hospitality Education for the New Albany/Floyd County schools, Ivy Tech, and Sullivan University. Currently, she spends most of her time fundraising, building community relationships and gardens, and wrangling an elderly dog and cat, two kittens, and 13 chickens. Gina is proud to be a founding member of the Louisville chapter of LDEI.

Lisa Thompson is the Chief Impact Officer for the Louisville Urban League. In her role, she creates sustainable strategic solutions for the LUL, seeks appropriate investments and helps to build the culture necessary for LUL to be a catalyst for long-term social change in the areas of Jobs, Justice, Education, Health and Housing. She works directly with departmental teams assigned to financial asset building and workforce development as well as with the agency’s development effort as chief grant writer.

Nancy Vienneau is a chef, former caterer, food educator and activist, writer and cookbook author – and budding grant application writer! A New Yorker transplanted to Nashville as a child, Nancy began cooking professionally in 1980. After 25 years and 10,000 cream cheese brownies, she sold her catering company and turned her attention to food writing and education. A founding member of the Nashville chapter, Nancy has served on its board for five years and is the current past president.
