The Legacy Awards, supported by The Julia Child Foundation, were established by Les Dames d'Escoffier International in 2009 with one goal in mind: to provide targeted mentorship opportunities for professional women in the food, fine beverage and hospitality industries. The Julia Child Foundation for Gastronomy and the Culinary Arts generously supports our Legacy Awards program.
A Week with a Dame Each Legacy Award winner earns a weeklong experience to work alongside an accomplished member of LDEI at her business in the United States, Canada, Mexico, or the United Kingdom. The competition is open to professional women from those countries who are not Dames but have a minimum of four years experience working in the culinary industry.
In 2017 six experiences are being awarded by distinguished members of LDEI in four categories: culinary; food/wine journalism; wine; and farm-to-table.
These six awards include the chance to: work at the Jose Cuervo Tequila Distillery and Mundo Cuervo, assist at the historic James Beard House in New York City, explore winemaking at Wente Family Estates in California, learn all the facets of Chateau Ste. Michelle Winery in Seattle, experience what it takes to produce award-winning cheese at Shy Brothers Farm, and partake in a farm-to-sea-to-table tour in New England. For complete descriptions of each, go to 2017 Legacy Experiences.
