|LDEI Collection at the Boyd Library Update|
Dame Liz Williams transported 20 boxes of books from the Nashville LDEI conference to New Orleans. She took out the back seat of her Cube car to make room. These donations have all been sorted and blue dots put on the spines, indicating an LDEI member authored it. There are now 487 books in the LDEI Collection, according to the LDEI Collection Google Spreadsheet. Of them, approximately 240 LDEI books already have been catalogued by the New Orleans Public Library and are available for use (or soon will be!) in the new Boyd library.
The Boyd Library has moved to 1840 Euterpe Street, New Orleans 70113. We are renting approximately 2200 square feet. The new library is two blocks west (uptown, in NOLA terms), and is on the ground floor. Wifi was installed last Friday, Feb. 28. There will be three work tables for visitors and three desks for staff. There is also a small kitchen, two bathrooms, and lots of sunlight. The move to the new library resulted in a nicer, brighter space, and it will be easier to work there. Movers moved 500+ boxes of books three weeks ago, on Feb. 7th.
LDEI members, you can now resume donating books, though it may be a few months before those books are on the shelves. The New Orleans Public Library's Technical Services division does Boyd Library cataloguing for free, as a community and collaborative gesture. Boyd books are not quite their top priority, and that's why it takes a while for the books to return.
